The Race For Education
The mission of The Race For Education (RFE) is to provide opportunities for young people through academic development programs, tutoring, internships, financial literacy training, and scholarships. These opportunities are offered to people who have significant needs and academic challenges.
Every year, the foundation offers a Washington State Thoroughbred Foundation Scholarship to residents in Washington who are attending a college or university in the state and are pursuing a career in pre-veterinary medicine (equine practice), equine science, racetrack management, pasture management as it relates to racetracks, horse farms, and other related fields.
The recipient will receive $5,000. The scholarship amount covers part of the recipient’s tuition at the college or university in Washington.

The foundation encourages horse conservation
The foundation gives students opportunities through scholarships to pursue careers in pre-veterinary medicine (equine practice only). These students learn and start practicing the overall well-being of horses in diverse situations including boarding, training, transport, and breeding (cleaning stalls and pens as well as checking beddings).

The foundation is funded by many sources
The funds that Race For Education uses to provide scholarships are donations from several sources such as federal and foundation grants, private individuals, and corporations.
The board of directors selects recipients
After receiving all the applications, the RFE works closely with donors, its board of directors, and community leaders to make initial recommendations concerning the award but the Washington Thoroughbred Foundation Board of Directors make the final decision on the award.
The foundation empowers low-income families
Race For Education helps students from low-income families and it is reported that the average household income of students receiving scholarships from the RFE is under $30,000 per year.
RFE solves hunger problems
Through a partnership with God’s Pantry Food Bank, The Race For Education offers a summer nutrition program that provides free lunch for children up to 18 years of age.
The foundation offers a financial literacy program
In 2005, the RFE received an Assets For Independence grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families to help students who may not get financial guidance due to their backgrounds.
