The Ohio EPA scholarship is for undergraduate students admitted to Ohio state or private colleges and universities pursuing environmental sciences or environmental engineering careers. The program is administered by the Ohio COmmunity of Science and supported by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency responsible for protecting the environment and public health by ensuring compliance with environmental laws.

Applicants must demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to environmental sciences or environmental engineering careers besides meeting the application requirements.

There are grants of up to $5,000 for students entering their junior or senior year in four-year and five-year programs in Ohio public or private colleges and universities. Other $2,500 grants go to students in two-year degree programs in Ohio public or private technical and community colleges.

To ace this scholarship, include two recommendation letters from education or environmental professionals. At least one of the letters must be from a faculty member at your college or university.

Submit your official grade transcripts

One of the ways to ace this scholarship is to have excellent grades because only a minimum 3.0 GPA will pass. The transcript must include all the courses taken to date. So keep up your grades and maintain your GPA to qualify for this award.

Plan your three engaging essays

Your application should include three essays not exceeding one two-sided page, double-spaced, 12-point font, and 1” margins. Each essay should address the following issues: 1) your reasons for choosing a career in environmental science or environmental engineering and how this scholarship will help you; 2) your unique contributions to the two disciplines and; 3) details of your extracurricular or community projects.
