The Graybar Construction Trades Scholarship is for high school seniors who enroll full-time as undergraduate students in an accredited nonprofit two-year college or technical school program in the construction trades.

Every year, 50 lucky scholars have the opportunity to pursue construction trades training worth $1,000 in the first year and renewable to $2,000 for one additional year.

Graybar, an American employee-owned corporation, sponsors the scholarship program, and the St. Louis Community Foundation administers it. Graybar established the scholarship to help raise the visibility of opportunities in the construction trades and to remove barriers for students with financial need.

Your application should include your last semester (Fall) transcript, grades, and GPA. You need a minimum 2.5 GPA, 456 on the GED, or 60 on the HiSET or equivalent scores on a state-sanctioned test.

Share information and experiences that show your initiatives and volunteer work in the community. Emphasize your achievements in a leadership role, and share case studies or awards that prove your prowess and skills.

Submit a well-written essay

You have the opportunity to share your story, interests, aspirations, and vision for a career in construction trades in a 500-word essay. In addition, you’ll share why you chose the construction trades and your plans for completing your degree/program.

Prove financial need

To ace this scholarship, you must show proof of financial need by uploading a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR). You’ll obtain it after filling in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form available online. If you are in an apprenticeship program that doesn’t require a FAFSA, please upload a document to confirm.

The St. Louis Community Foundation determines eligibility, financial need, award recipients, and award amount. Application evaluation considers your past academic performance, the potential for continued success, the quality of the essay and recommendations, financial need, and evidence of the student’s commitment to the construction trades.
