The Sherry R. Arnstein Underrepresented Minority Scholarship is named after former AACOM Executive Director Sherry R. Arnstein. The program has benefited students since 2012. From the first endowment, AACOM continued to sponsor the initiative, which has steadily grown and has many more applicants and scholarships being offered each year.

The scholarship clearly has a population approach that prioritizes students belonging to one of the following communities: African American, Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian, mainland Puerto Rican, or Hispanic American. If the applicant does not meet this criteria, they will not be eligible.

Each student who wins the scholarship will receive a grant of $1,000. The scholarship is only awarded once to the winners; they cannot be candidates again once they have previously received the prize.

Upon being selected and receiving the scholarship, students must submit a letter of acceptance from an AACOM member institution. Therefore, before applying, check the dates of the universities or colleges that interest you and start the admission process.

One of the characteristics that the juries will take into account when choosing the candidates is their participation in activities and events of underrepresented minorities. So if you are an activist in your community, it is time to show it and be proud.

Answer all questions

For the application, the organization has determined a certain number of questions for applicants to respond to and you must answer all of them.

Follow the instructions

For the writing of the essay, you must take into account the word limits. For the first two questions, you can write a maximum of 2,000 words. For the last one, you have the opportunity to express your opinions in 4,000 words.
