The RDW Group and Rhode Island Foundation partnered to present the RDW Group Communications Scholarship for People of Color. The scholarship grants up to $2,500 to any person who identifies as African American, Hispanic, Native North American, Asian American, or a person of color. The applicant must study or be a high school senior wanting to study at an institution within Rhode Island and be majoring in one of the following fields of study: advertising, communications, content marketing, data analytics, digital marketing, marketing, mass media arts, public relations.

Applicants are required to submit the Rhode Island Foundation’s financial information worksheet and a Student Aid Report (SAR). Applicants are required to submit two essays on why they wish to study in the communications field and any extracurricular activities or volunteer work they have taken part in. An official copy of an academic transcript must be submitted along with the application form and accompanying questionnaire.

The scholarship can be split among multiple individuals and previous applicants and recipients are welcome to reapply. The funds can be spent on tuition, room, and boarding, books, meal plans, or other higher education expenses. Winners are also given the opportunity to intern at RDW Group.

The scholarship is looking to assist individuals who are studying for a communications-based degree and have taken part in community development projects. Showcase all extracurricular activities you take part in and examples of volunteer work you have participated in to help your local community.

Explain your career goals in detail

You have to submit two essays with your application, with one answering the question “What impact would you like to have on the communications field?”. Go into detail explaining your ideal career path with emphasis on the positive impact you will have on the communications field as well as your local community.

It is crucial that you receive feedback from classmates and/or lecturers you are close with when applying for the scholarship. To give yourself the best chance of winning we suggest you ask peers for reviews of your answers to the questions as well as an overall review of your submission.
