MTES is offered to students studying in over 40 higher education institutions across Florida. The scholarship aims to encourage minority students to join the state’s teaching workforce. Applicants must, therefore, come from a minority community, in particular, African American/Black, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian American/Pacific Islander, or Hispanic/Latino.

The scholarship is to be used for undergraduate and graduate studies. As such, applicants must be currently enrolled in a teacher’s education program at the time of making an application. Only U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens who are also Florida residents can receive the Scholarship.

Every year, MTES awards up to $4,000 to selected winners. This award is renewable automatically for up to three years. Besides the financial assistance, winners also receive academic support and professional development opportunities through the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers (FFMT).
