The Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship recognizes two outstanding students annually who are preparing for a career in state and local government finance. The scholarship offers a one-time $10,000- award to undergraduate and graduate students each.

Founded in 1906, the GFOA represents public finance officials in the United States and Canada. Headquartered in Chicago, GFOA has about 19,000 members made up of state, provincial, and local government finance officers in the United States and Canada. In accordance with its mission to advance excellence in public finance, the GFOA’s executive board voted in 1987 to create the Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship to recognize outstanding accounting students with an interest in a career in state or local government finance.

Applicants are expected to be full-time, graduate, or upper-level undergraduate students from an accredited university in the U.S. or Canada. Past winners of any GFOA scholarship award are not eligible to apply.

Frank L. Greathouse was a distinguished accountant

Frank L. Greathouse was inducted into the National Association for State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers Hall of Fame in 2015 due to his distinguished career in public accounting.

In 1932, its name became the Municipal Finance Officers Association (MFOA) and adopted its new name in April 1984.
