CollegeCounts Scholarship
State of Alabama
The CollegeCounts Scholarship, sponsored by The CollegeCounts Board of Directors, offers financial assistance to highly motivated and passionate college students. The scholarship is funded by the Alabama College Education Savings Program established by Alabama law. The program is only open to Alabama residents or students enrolled in educational institutions in Alabama.
The program targets high school seniors or first-time college freshmen starting school in the fall of the year the scholarship is awarded. As an applicant, you must demonstrate financial need, have a GPA of 2.75 or more, and an ACT score of 26 or below. Each year, about 195 deserving students are awarded the scholarship.
The winners are awarded a sum of $4,000 if they are enrolled in a four-year college and $2,000 if they are enrolled in a two-year college. This prize money can be used for education-related expenses such as tuition, fees, computers, books, and supplies. In addition, the money can be channeled to cater to the students’ accommodation both on or off-campus.

How the CollegeCounts Scholarship is Judged

5 Facts about CollegeCounts Scholarship
The scholarship is one-time and non-renewable
As a winner, you will receive the scholarship proceeds once, the cash reward cannot be renewed and is only granted to one winning entry annually.
Notifications are sent via email
Both award recipients and applicants not selected are notified by email. For the award winners, an Acceptance link will be displayed on the home page following the notification.
Scholarship has two main sources of funding
The scholarship program has two main sources of funding that is, the Alabama Higher Education Loan Corporation (AHELC) and the ACES Trust Fund.
Administrative duties of the program
The scholarship’s administrative duties are assigned to the Alabama State Treasurer whose responsibilities include receiving, depositing, and investing all state funds.
Payments wired to your institution
The award money will be mailed to the winner’s accepted institution for credit to their account.
