The Florida Department of Education annually awards high school seniors who demonstrate financial need in the state to further their education and pursue undergraduate studies of their choice across the U.S. This program gives Florida residents a great high-paying opportunity to join college and reach their academic and career goals, therefore, it is a very competitive award with only four winners each year. The award amount can be a full-ride scholarship. It ranges from a minimum of $1,560 up to $25,347 depending on the designated programs within the Bright Futures Scholarship; and those are Florida Academic Scholars, Florida Medallion Scholars, Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholars, and Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars. The Florida Academic Scholars provides a full-ride scholarship at public universities in Florida. The Florida Medallion Scholars on the other hand covers 75% of school tuition. Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholars is for those pursuing an applied technology diploma, an associate degree in applied science or associate in science, or a career certificate. 5 Facts About Bright Futures Scholarship
It is for Florida residents
Bright Futures Scholarship is available for Florida resident students who seek to study at any of Florida’s post-secondary institutions.
Students can enroll full- or half-time
Applicants must be enrolled or plan to enroll half-time of at least six credit hours or full-time of 12 credit hours at their institution.
It is a renewable award
The program is renewable for up to four years as long as requirements are met.
Out-of-State Florida residents are eligible to apply
Florida residents enrolled in out-of-state colleges, universities, or vocational/technical schools are eligible to apply as long as the requirements are met.
Florida Academic scholars get a little extra
Winners of the Florida Academic Scholars program will also receive $300 per semester for additional educational costs.
