The Maine Difference Scholarship was created over 20 years ago to aid in the cost reduction of attaining a college education for young residents of Maine. The program is structured with an emphasis on Maine to ensure that students and the state of Maine benefit from the scholarships and careers resulting from a student’s education.

The organization offers three available scholarships valued at $1,000 per recipient annually to high school seniors and high school graduates undertaking an undergraduate program leading to a career related to ecology and economics at any college or university in Maine.

Through the Maine Difference Scholarship program, Lamey Wellehan helps Maine students and the environment with money saved from eliminating single-use shopping bags in all of their stores. Its mission is to educate Maine’s children and provide them with the opportunity to better their great state.
