How to ace the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation Scholarships
File your FAFSA early
FAFSA is an important aspect of all scholarship applications. Its application opens in October so you can file it even before the Susan T. B. Scholarship opens. You can find all information and resources on how to file it at studentaid.gov/resources. Remember to gather all required documents and details beforehand to have a smooth application process.
Select your recommender carefully
Select a recommender who knows you well and has worked with or supervised you closely. This could be a teacher, mentor, pastor, school administrator, or coach. Inquire whether they can write the letter on your behalf. You want to give your recommender ample time to write it, so make sure you add their details into your application early.
Review your short answers
Short answer prompts are great since you don’t have to write a long essay. However, this means you should pay even more attention to them. Double and triple-check your writing to ensure there are no spelling mistakes. Since you also have a maximum word limit of 250, ensure that your writing is indeed short, sweet, and comprehensive.
Seek feedback
Ask a few friends or family members to go through your writing and perhaps the entire application. They will be able to pick up on any errors you may have missed. Remember to incorporate the feedback received.
