How to ace the Steve Bayless Undergraduate Scholarship
Select recommenders carefully
Your principal will be one of your recommenders. Choose two other recommenders who know you well and can speak to your abilities in detail. These can be one of your professors or a direct supervisor in roles you’ve played. Ensure that you inquire about their availability and inform them early to ensure they have ample time to write and review the recommendation letter.
Collect your transcript early
You will need to submit an official transcript. Make sure that you pick it early on. Ensure that the transcript contains details of your GPA, class rank, and ACT/SAT scores. If you’ve attended multiple schools, get a transcript from each.
Revamp your résumé
Your résumé is your chance to show your experience in theatre. Include all theatre projects you’ve been on and highlight the roles you played. You could embed a link in your resume that redirects to a list of selected videos/images that show your best work. You can as well revamp your résumé and give it a fresh look.
Write a winning essay
The personal statement is your chance to show your plans and goals for your studies in theater studies. While those are the bare minimums, you should show off your uniqueness, personality, and passion for the world of theatre.
