Every year, the Richard Goolsby Scholarship Fund is administered to support the education of an undergraduate student, planning to pursue a career that is related to the plastic industry or a graduate student seeking a postgraduate degree.

The scholarship program is sponsored by the Foundation For The Carolinas (FFTC). Prospective recipients will be students who are majoring in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or business administration at a two- or four-year technical college.

The recipient of the award will receive $4,000 and it will cover part of the person’s tuition at their institution of choice. Preference will be given to those residing in the geographical area served by the Carolinas Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers (central and western North Carolina and all of South Carolina).

The scholarship is only available for students in their sophomore or pursuing postgraduate degrees. This means that freshmen are not eligible for the award no matter the level of their academic performance.

Your grades in your first year of undergraduate study or graduate degree should be very high. This is the only way you can stand a chance of emerging a winner in the scholarship program. Keep in mind that there can be only one winner.

Ensure you reside where SPE Carolinas services

Another factor that plays a major role in your application is your geographical area of residence. The scholarship organization usually gives preference to applicants who live in areas served by the Carolinas Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers, also known as SPE Carolinas. These areas include the whole of central and western North Carolina and all of South Carolina.

Ensure that you get involved in your school and community by taking leadership positions and participating in community service. When you have volunteer and leadership experience, you are not only likely to increase your chances of winning the scholarship but also win other awards.
