The Orlando Science Center created the Dr. Nelson Ying Science Competition to encourage high school students to develop scientific projects that could help humanity. The scholarship is open to all high school students in Florida.

Annually, the Orlando Science Center awards one winner $5,000. The four finalists receive $1,000 each. Another $1,000 is awarded to the referring teacher and the winner’s high school gets $1,000 as well. The winner and finalists are judged based on the quality of their papers and oral presentation.

The goal of the Dr. Nelson Ying Science Competition is to support innovative and exemplary students. The competition encourages students to develop scientific projects that will have a positive impact on society.

How the Dr. Nelson Ying Science Competition is Judged

The organization judges applicants on the quality of their papers and oral presentation. The judging panel will look for originality, documentation of the scientific research, and use of the scientific method. If accepted, applicants will also provide an oral presentation.
