The Illinois Section American Water Works Association (ISAWWA) has a mission to promote public health and welfare through the provision of drinking water of sufficient quality and quantity. ISAWWA is tasked with developing tools, policies, and equipment related to water stewardship in order to accomplish this.

In fulfillment of the mission, the committee came up with the ISAWWA Outreach Safe Water Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to educate the general public on the vital functions and significance of the water industry. It is a $5,000 award for those pursuing a career in the field of safe drinking water.

For the academic year, all applicants must be enrolled in a water-related secondary, continuing education, or enrichment program. Also, programs like water system operator training programs, water-related technical school programs, community colleges, four-year colleges, and master’s and doctoral programs are eligible for this award.
