The Sunflower Initiative, which is made up of alumni and friends of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and alumnae and friends of other women’s schools, is sponsoring the award. The Sunflower Initiative was established to help encourage women to pursue further education and support them as they do.

The scholarship awards a woman enrolled in undergraduate studies at a women’s college in the United States or Canada with a scholarship worth $10,000.

After verifying enrollment, the Sunflower Initiative sends the scholarship fee directly to the college each term.

How the Harriet Fitzgerald Scholarship is Judged

The scholarship committee is looking for a highly driven candidate interested in attending a women’s institution in the United States. The ideal candidate will have a solid high school record, excellent references, a genuine desire to contribute to society, and evidence of strong character and leadership qualities, as well as a wide range of interests. A 3.7 unweighted Grade Point Average (GPA) or above is also required, as well as an SAT score not less than 1350 or a composite ACT score of at least 27 with no single ACT score below 25.
