The Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC) sponsors the Foodservice Communications Scholarship to assist students and professionals interested in pursuing studies in editors and public relations/marketing communications.

It is dedicated to a certain niche of professionals and aims to bring them together to share ideas, resources, and editorial content for foodservice-focused readers. The amount awarded ranges from $1,500 to $6,000. In recent years, IFEC granted The Foodservice Communication Scholarships from four to six awards running from $1,500 to $6,000. IFEC will notify winners around mid-July.

Two letters of recommendation from a supervisor, instructor, adviser, or other food/foodservice or communications professional familiar with your qualifications are required as part of the application. Early contact with recommenders will ensure they submit the letters before the application deadline.

Be sure to follow the essay prompt. Also, use grammar check software to track all punctuation errors and misspellings.

Official transcripts are preferred

Sending an official transcript means you came prepared. If your official transcript isn't ready at the time of application, apply with the unofficial transcript and send the official transcript afterwards through the post.

The judging committee looks at your work experience and present and previous schooling to see if you're preparing for a future in writing or public relations in the foodservice or food and beverage business. Some of the similar careers not included in the scholarship are; Chef de Cuisine, Chef de cuisine-instructor, Caterer, Restaurateur, and Hotelier.

High school students are ineligible

Applications from students still in high school as of March 15 are not accepted.

Master students are eligible

Students can apply in their post-graduate studies for a master's degree in the listed courses.

The yearly auction, which IFEC members and friends support, helps fund IFEC scholarships.
