The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society
Each year, the Endowment for South Asian Students of Indian Descent (ESASID) Scholarship Fund targets a South Asian student of Indian descent. To be eligible, the student must be full-time in his/her second, third, or fourth year at an accredited Pennsylvania medical school. In addition, the applicant should be a resident of Pennsylvania or New Jersey.
The scholarship is worth $5,000 and aims to ease the financial burden on highly motivated and top-performing students intent on pursuing a medical career.
The scholarship, administered by the Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, has been sponsored by Dr. Jitendra Desai, a urologist, and Dr. Saryu Desai, an anesthesiologist, since July 2002.

The Indian heritage connection
As a potential applicant, you must first be a South Asian Indian or a descendant of a South Asian Indian immigrant to the United States. The following lineage qualifies: self, parent(s), grandparent(s), or great-grandparent(s) of South Asian Indian heritage.
The geographical location eligibility requirement
One other critical eligibility requirement is that you must be a Pennsylvania or New Jersey resident for at least 12 months before registering as a medical student.
