In order to support qualified first-generation college students in Arizona financially and academically, the Dorrance Family founded the Dorrance Scholarship Program in 1999. The Dorrance Scholarship is a need-based prize that strives to foster college-going traditions in Arizona families for future generations, give recipients access to funding and academic support, and improve college persistence through distinctive enrichment experiences.

The Program provides up to 60 scholarships each year to entering first-year students at the three public universities in the state: the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University (Tucson).

The scholarship and program are worth more than $100,000, according to estimates. Based on academic performance and excellent involvement in scholarship program activities, scholarships are renewable.

How to ace the Dorrance Scholarship Program

Cultivate academic excellence

Possess a minimum SAT score of 1110, an ACT score of 22, a CLT score of 72, or a PSAT score of 1050, as well as a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (weighted or unweighted) (PSAT scores taken during your sophomore or junior year).

Explain how you classify as a first-generation student

Applicants should have neither parent, stepparent, or legal guardian as holders of a four-year degree from any country.

Demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA

Based on their financial need, applicants are given priority consideration for awards.

Apply to one of Arizona’s public universities

Candidates must agree to reside on campus for their first and second years of college at one of the three universities—ASU-Tempe, NAU-Flagstaff, or UA-Tucson.

The award is allocated according to financial need by reviewing all entered applications to ensure they meet all. Priority consideration goes to candidates with a solid GPA status.

Eligible to applicants in Arizona only

Applicants, who are not residents of Arizona, cannot apply for the Dorrance Scholarship Program.

Sign the Scholar Participation Agreement

Whoever intends to apply is required to sign the scholar participation agreement after winning the award.

Recipients partake in all aspects of program

Recipients often attend the Dorrance Scholarship Program Orientation and successfully complete the Dorrance Summer Bridge Program at your university.

The program requisition for annual report

Successful awardees are always needed to send in the year-end report and submit a FAFSA each year.
