Davis Putter Scholarship Fund
The Davis-Putter Scholarship Program introduces students to new perspectives and experiences as well as equips them with life-long enrichment opportunities. Recent scholarship grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice, and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity.
The Davis-Putter Scholarship is an aid to people active in movements for social and economic justice. The need-based scholarship is awarded to students who can do academic work at the university or college level or are enrolled in a technical or trade program and who are active in the progressive movement.
Every year, the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides college scholarships worth $15,000 to undergraduate or postgraduate students each, attending universities across the nation through various programs. Applicants are evaluated on social justice, academic performance, and relevance of the educational program, as well as financial need.

How to ace the Davis-Putter Scholarship
Explain how the scholarship will help you
As part of your 1,000-word statement, outline how the scholarship will assist you in achieving your goals. Highlight your plan for your future and why your studies are an integral step in that plan.
Demonstrate all relevant social activity
Your statement should not be more than approximately 1,000 words and should demonstrate your aims and activities, your specific involvement and experience with progressive social activity, the major groups you were or are a member of, along with dates of active teamwork. Your statement should also include your long-term goals and concerns, and explain how your proposed study is expected to benefit movements for social change.
Support application with evidence of previous works
You may also upload clippings, writings, and other documents of your previous works that you think may assist in assessing your application.
Submit every other necessary document on time
Request letters of recommendation from two individuals who know of your progressive activities. The letters can be from university faculty or advisors, organizational leaders, activists, politicians, or others who are familiar with your perspectives and activities. In addition to completing the information requested in the application, you must also upload a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) and explain also if your parents or guardians have sufficient assets to defray educational and living expenses but are not doing so.

The application will be judged based on the applicant’s contribution to social justice, ability to perform academically, the relevance of the educational program, as well as financial need.

The program is for social and economic justice

The scholarship is need-based
It is a need-based scholarship awarded to help students finish their education whether college or university level or enrolled in a trade or technical program; and who are active in the progressive movement.
The program offers $15,000 annually
The maximum grant available from the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund is $15,000 per year, disbursed to cover each separate semester, quarter, or term during which the grantee is attending school.
The scholarship can be renewed
Provided the awardee continues to meet the criteria, their application can be resubmitted for the following year(s) of enrollment, but the award cannot be deferred or carried over.
The scholarship gives everyone equal chance
The fund gives equal chances to all applicants, even those who are not yet enrolled or accepted can calculate the expenses of their desired school and apply for the scholarship.
