The grant is named after Merton Sowerby, a long-serving Guernsey classifier, well-known herdsman, National Dairy Shrine Pioneer, and member of the National Dairy Hall of Fame. Three innovative and ambitious undergraduate students in the dairy sector will receive up to $1,500 in financial aid from the National Dairy Shrine.

These awards are given to undergraduate sophomores and juniors who want to pursue teaching or communication jobs in the dairy or food industries. Successful applicants get to study the following majors in their chosen fields, including human nutrition, social media & communications, marketing, education, public relations, food science, and journalism.

Leadership, experience, academic aptitude, and a passion for education or communications are all factors that the committee considers when awarding grants. Financial aid assists students in paying for tuition, study materials, and personal expense stipends.
