The C. Lamar Meek Memorial Scholarship is awarded by the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association (LMCA). The scholarship is named after C. Lamar Meek who, for many years, worked to strengthen the LMCA and promote education in medical and forensic entomology among students and the community. The Scholarship is awarded every year to one student.
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, or Texas during the scholarship. Applicants must undertake an investigation, research, or outreach project in the area of medical and veterinary entomology. The application must also be accompanied by a one-page academic development plan and two letters of recommendation, with one of the letters being from the student’s major advisor outlining how the funds will be used.
The winner of the scholarship will be required to present a report of academic scholarship at the annual LMCA meeting within two years of receiving the scholarship. The winner can only reapply for the scholarship only if there is a change in their level of education status. The scholarship amount can partly be used to pay student salary and travel expenses for fieldwork.
