The Alma Exley Scholarship is a program established in memory of the dedicated educator Alma Exley, who realized that diversity is one of America’s greatest assets. Each year, the organization awards $5,000 to one student who seeks to become a teacher at public schools to help them with their academic goals.

African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans are all eligible. After being accepted into a Connecticut teacher preparation program, applicants may submit the scholarship application. Applicants may be pursuing a master’s degree or be in their junior or senior year of college.

The organization forms a committee of respected educators from across Connecticut to review the applications and recommends the scholarship recipients to the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, based on criteria established by the committee. Please get in touch with the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, which oversees the initiative, for further details.
