The Women’s Press Club of Indiana (WPCI) was founded in 1913 and later became one of the founding members of the National Federation of Press Women. Members of the club are communication professionals working in various aspects of media, including education, publishing, journalism, marketing, public relations, and more. The club has a dedicated education fund for providing scholarships and grants to its members and Indiana college students.

WPCI named a scholarship after Hortense Myers, who became the first woman to work for the International Press Service in 1942. Hortense P. Myers was a UPI Statehouse Reporter, a graduate of Butler University, and a 1977 Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame inductee. She was known as a just and relentless reporter, who steadfastly sought the truth in every story.

College students may apply for the scholarship in their junior year. The $1,000- Hortense P. Myers Scholarship is awarded to only one student every year. Students will be judged on the quality of their essays, transcripts, and their recommendation letters.

Applicants, who are younger than 21 years of age, are required to submit the information of their parents or guardians with their application.
