The Alpha Omega Council was founded by Peter Agris in 1976. He also founded and published The Hellenic Chronicles, which was the premier Greek-American national newspaper for fifty years in America. Peter Agris was an Archon of the Greek Orthodox Church and a trustee of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology.

The Alpha Omega Council comprises leading businessmen and women of Hellenic ancestry. To honor its founder, the council annually offers a $5,000 scholarship in his name to graduate and undergraduate students at its Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner.

The scholarships are for Greek-American students in the fields of journalism and communication. Applicants must be of Greek-American descent and U.S. citizen. They must be currently in full-time enrollment as journalism or communications majors at the graduate or undergraduate level at an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicants must be active participants in school, community, and church organizations, have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.

Applicants, who are studying on loans from the government or receiving financial support from their schools, are allowed to apply for this scholarship.

Graduates can apply with any undergraduate degree

Postgraduate applicants do not need a bachelor's degree in journalism or communication to apply. Any undergraduate major is accepted as long as the postgraduate study is in journalism or communication.
