Edna Yelland was one of the prestigious residents of California that used her career to impact lives in California. Upon her graduation from California State Library School in Sacramento, she held many positions in the state. The last position she held before her demise was executive secretary of the California Library Association.
Due to her numerous contributions to California Library Association (CLA), the organization established the Edna Yelland Minority Scholarship in her name. Each year, the CLA awards the scholarship to three Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) graduate students who are enrolled in library science or information studies graduate programs at one of the ALA-accredited universities.
The amount of the scholarship is $2,500. It will cover part of the tuition fees of the recipients at their institution. Applicants must be residents of California who demonstrate financial need. They must provide their grade transcripts, financial information, recommendation letters, and essays.
