Free 36-Language Co-op Library Launches Online

IICADD at HEC Montréal has launched PortailCoop, a free digital knowledge platform on co-operatives and mutuals, built with the International Cooperative Alliance. The platform offers more than 37,000 resources in 36 languages for users worldwide.

Why it matters

The platform was created to make knowledge on co-operatives and mutuals more visible, accessible, and shared. For language learners and anyone studying co-operative models, it gathers material across many languages in one place.

The platform holds over 10,000 organisational reports, more than 500 practical tools, and around 900 audio and video resources. Registration is free and open to all users.

The players

IICADD at HEC Montréal

The international institute at HEC Montréal that develops and manages PortailCoop and specializes in co-operative and mutual research.

International Cooperative Alliance (ICA)

The global federation representing co-operatives across sectors and countries, and a partner in the PortailCoop collaboration.

The details

PortailCoop is a digital platform developed and managed by IICADD at HEC Montréal. Resources are contributed from more than 4,100 organisations in 84 countries and are available in 36 languages. Co-operative organisations and individuals are encouraged to add their own knowledge to the platform. The International Cooperative Alliance and IICADD signed a memorandum of understanding in November to strengthen the sharing of co-operative knowledge.

  2. 2026-2030: The ICA strategy 'Practice, Promote, Protect' runs during this period.

Education Landscape

Digital, multilingual knowledge libraries are becoming a common way to share specialised research beyond a single university. PortailCoop extends that approach to co-operative and mutual models, which are studied across many countries.

Students and practitioners interested in co-operative models can register for PortailCoop for free and search its 36-language collection. Those studying in a second language may find the translated reports and audio resources useful for building vocabulary alongside subject knowledge.

The takeaway

A free multilingual platform now gives learners access to co-operative knowledge across 36 languages, which can support both subject study and language practice. Registration is open to all users, so checking the resource library is a low-cost first step.
