How to ace the Rosa L. Parks Scholarship

1

Start your application early

You have quite a number of documents to gather for this application, so make sure you start the process early to finish and revise on time. Don’t procrastinate, so you don’t end up missing the deadline.

2

Get involved in your community

Sometimes, talk is cheap. You shouldn’t just say how much you’re committed to social justice; your application should actually demonstrate it through your activities. If in the past, you’ve shied away from getting involved in such activities or movements, now is the time to take them on.

3

Choose your recommenders wisely

The people you choose to write your recommendation letters should know you well enough to be able to speak to your academic and non-academic qualities. Only one of the letters is mandated to be from a school representative, so you can reach out to a respectable member of your community for your other letter. You should also choose people you think will deliver in time.

4

Review your essay

Ensure you submit an impeccable essay, free of grammatical or typographical errors. Go through it multiple times, and have a friend or relative go through it too. Most importantly, ensure your essay has sufficiently and accurately answered the essay prompt.
